Continuation of SPAN 001. Fundamentals of Spanish composition, comprehension, pronunciation, speaking, reading, and writing in a cultural context. Classes are conducted in Spanish and students engage in active use of the language. Prerequisite: SPAN 001 or equivalent.

SPAN 002 is the second course in a two-semester sequence of beginning Spanish. It is designed for students who have successfully completed SPAN 001 at the University of Vermont, as well as students with previous experience in Spanish who have scored the requisite number of points in the UVM placement test. The course emphasizes all four major language skills: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Upon completion of this course, students will be able to use their newly acquired skills in order to communicate in Spanish in a realistic and culturally appropriate manner. All classes are conducted in Spanish. OBJETIVOS (course objectives): By the end of this course students will be able to: • Identify themselves and write about their daily life • apply vocabulary learned to simple conversation on familiar topics necessary for survival in the target language culture • describe how they feel physically • analyze short stories and write responses • design a video focusing on oral interaction such as: describing, asking, and expressing feelings

Grades will be based on participation, daily assignments, quizzes, exams, a final, and projects. Class participation In SPAN 002 active and constructive class participation is a requirement. Speaking a foreign language with proficiency is an acquired skill that entails consistent practice and self-discipline. In this online class, students will create and watch videos to enhance their pronunciation. Students will write on BB blogs and must do assignments on time.
