About MATH 022 Z2

Vectors and vector operations. Techniques and applications of integration. Polar coordinates, Taylor polynomials, sequences and series, power series. Prerequisite: MATH 021. Credit will not be given for both MATH 022 and MATH 023.

Section Description

This is a four credit course in second semester Calculus for students majoring in mathematics, engineering and the physical sciences. The topics in the course are techniques and applications of integration, brief introduction to differential equations, polar coordinates with parametric equations, infinite sequences and series, vectors and the geometry of space. We will cover chapters seven through twelve in, Stewart's "Calculus, early transcendentals", eighth edition.

Section Expectation

The style of instruction is traditional lecture with a heavy use of the doc camera, (an overhead projector). Notes are posted on blackboard after every lecture. Students must obtain a version of "Web-Assign" in order to do the online homework. Students should expect to put in about two hours of work outside of class for every hour of class. Students should have a strong background in algebra, precalculus and trigonometry before starting the course in addition to a strong background in first semester calculus. The recommended textbook is listed in the course description.


The grade in the course is determined by a weighted average of 2 or 3 tests, 5 or 6 quizzes, a comprehensive final exam, the web-assign homework and a mathematica assignment.
