Introduction to calculus of functions of one variable including: limits, continuity, techniques and applications of differentiation and integration. Prerequisites: MATH 010, or strong background in secondary school algebra and trigonometry. Credit not given for more than one course in the pair MATH 019, MATH 021 unless followed by MATH 022 or MATH 023.

This is a four credit course in first semester Calculus for students majoring in mathematics, engineering and the physical sciences. The topics in the course are limits, derivatives and their applications for functions of one real variable. The last part of the course is an introduction to integrals and their applications. We will cover chapters two through six in, Stewart's "Calculus, early transcendentals", eighth edition.
The style of instruction is traditional lecture with a heavy use of the doc camera, (an overhead projector). Notes are posted on blackboard after every lecture. Students must obtain a version of "Web-Assign" in order to do the online homework. Students should expect to put in about two hours of work outside of class for every hour of class. Students should have a strong background in algebra, precalculus and trigonometry before starting the course.
The grade in the course is determined by a weighted average of 2 tests, 5 or 6 quizzes, the web-assign homework and a mathematica assignment.
