More Information

Section Description

Physics 12 is the continuation course to Physics 11, Elementary Physics. In Physics 12, students will be presented with the topics of Electricity, Magnetism, Optics and Modern (quantum) Physics ideas. The course goals are for students to develop both a qualitative (conceptual) and quantitative (algebra based problem-solving) understanding of each of these topics, informed by the fundamental background of the basic physics concepts of the relationships between force, motion, momentum, matter and energy presented in Physics 11.

Section Expectation

This course combines a lecture component and a problem-solving component (called recitation). Students will be expected to attend all sections and participate in the in-class quizzes and examinations. There will be regular homework assignments, to be completed online. Students should expect to spend about 20 hours per week outside of class to keep up with the reading and the homework problems. The required textbook package is: Randall Knight's "College Physics" fourth edition, packaged with MasteringPhysics. You will also need to have some kind of web enabled device in lecture to participate in the lecture quizzes. Also, it is highly recommended that you have a scientific calculator for use during exams.
