This 2 credit course is for current Physical Therapy students and/or PT Professionals who would like to further their education in Manual Therapy and International Health Care Delivery. Have you noticed that many of the expert Manual Physical Therapists in the world such as Robin McKenzie, Brian Mulligan, Stanley Paris, Mike Monahan, and Duncan Reid, all come from New Zealand? New Zealand is a hot bed for manual physical therapists. Would you like to study Manual Physical Therapy with some of the world’s best Manual Therapy Instructors? In this course you will travel to Auckland University of Technology in the pristine country of New Zealand to advance your manipulative therapy skills with some of the best manual therapy instructors in the world. This unique Physical Therapy course involves collaboration between UVM and AUT Orthopedic Teaching faculty. We will be on the AUT campus for 2 full weeks of classes focusing on teaching you manipulation skills for the cervical, thoracic, lumbar spine and SIJ. In week one you will be in the teaching lab side by side with licensed NZ physiotherapists who are working on their post graduate diploma in Manipulative Ph! ysiotherapy. In addition to learning your spinal manipulations we will also be learning about Health Care Promotion strategies in New Zealand, Neurodynamics, Movement System Impairments, Real time ultrasound and advanced clinical decision making. We will take advantage of the pacific island nation we are visiting and learn about cultural differences and their impact on delivery of health care in New Zealand. In addition there will be discussions on health care access in the USA and New Zealand with efforts to better understand the limited Universal Health Care access program in NZ as the USA works towards remodeling its health care access on a national and state level. We will enjoy team building activities by traveling as a group around the Greater Auckland Region to visit the New State of the Art Olympic Training Center at AUT’s Millennium Campus, touring the Auckland Museum and traveling by Ferry to the Coromandal Region to see amazing geographic wonders such as Cathedral Cove and Hot Water Beach.
