Vectors, matrices, linear independence, vector spaces (with focus on real n-space), determinants, linear transformations, eigenvalues and eigenvectors. Applications from engineering and the sciences incorporated through required computer assignments. Credit not given for both MATH 122 and MATH 124. Prerequisite: MATH 022 or MATH 023.

This is an online class. All homework, Matlab assignments, discussions, and quizzes will be completed online (through Blackboard). There are two exams which are proctored (on-campus or through ProctorU) and a cumulative final exam (also proctored through ProctorU).<br/> **Please note that ProctorU charges a fee for exams. For more information regarding exam scheduling, contact the instructor directly. <br/><br/>
<ul><li><b>Homework</b>: Homework is assigned on Tuesday and Thursday and due at 11:59pm (on the following Thursday or Tuesday, respectively. Homework is completed in WebAssign (www.webassign.net). </li> <li><b>Matlab assignments</b>: The Matlab assignments will be posted in Blackboard (bb.uvm.edu). Most labs will be submitted in Blackboard. No late Matlab assignments are accepted for grading. The lowest Matlab grade will be dropped. You may collaborate with others, but you must submit your own code/answers/analysis.</li> <li><b>Quizzes</b>: There will be 1 quiz given each week. Quizzes are posted in Blackboard. Quizzes are available Wednesday at 12:00am and are due by 11:59pm Thursday, unless otherwise specified. You may use your own notes, textbook, or Webassign materials for the quizzes. Do not collaborate nor discuss the quiz with others until the due date has passed. Quizzes are 5-10 question concept checks and similar to video lecture material, warm-ups, and homework material. Each student is exempt from two quizzes. No make – up quizzes will be given. </li> <li><b>Exams</b>: Exams are only offered through ProctorU. There is a small fee associated to each exam (payable directly to ProctorU). Make-up exams: If you have a genuine emergency and cannot attend the exam date, you must notify me within 24 hours of the start of the exam. Failure to notify me within 24 hours or failure to provide appropriate documentation will result in a 0 score for the exam. *Please note that calculators are not permitted on any exam.</li> <li><b>Discussions</b>: There are 3 required discussions in this course (Exam 1, Exam 2, and Final review discussion), spanning two weeks each. Discussions require each student to select a math problem (from the textbook) to solve in detail. </li> <li><b>Attendance</b>: Students are required to post their introductory post, sign-up for ProctorU exams, and complete Quiz #0 in the first week of class. Any student who has not completed all of these items may be withdrawn due to the 1st week attendance policy.</li> </ul>
