Description: This week-long residential Institute is for rising 10-12th grade Vermont high school students who are passionate about environmental issues and want to investigate the human impact on Vermont's environment. Through hands-on exploration of the soil, water and air, lab analysis with state-of-the-art resources, and field research longside professional experts, students explore how scientists understand human interactions with our planet. Students also gain exposure to scientific careers through guest speakers, career night, and field trips to local businesses and facilities that manage environmental systems. Students apply for the Governor's Institute on Environmental Science & Technology at www.giv.org. Rising juniors and seniors may be eligible to obtain college credit upon completion of the program using their dual enrollment vouchers (we strongly recommend obtaining vouchers before the end of the school year, as HS guidance staff are not typically available during the summer months). Interested students should register for UVM credit no later than July 9, 2018. Acceptance to the Governor's Institute on Environmental Science & Technology is a pre-requisite. Some additional coursework may be required. Call (802) 865-4448 for more information on the Governor's Institutes.
