Course focuses on prevention, recognition, and care of injuries incurred by the physically active. Includes topics of anatomy, biomechanics, nutrition, environmental concerns, and emergency procedures.
Dates: May 21 - June 15, 2018;
This course explores the basics of prevention, recognition, care, assessment, treatment and rehabilitation for injuries to physically active populations. This includes a survey of the following topics: musculoskeletal anatomy; tissue response to injury; nutrition; protective equipment; emergency procedures; environmental concerns; mechanisms of sport injury; injury prevention, assessment, and management; and abnormalities and disabilities as they apply to the physically active.
Students are expected to complete all required modules for the course within the 4-week time block, meeting stated due dates for assignments as per the schedule. Students may choose to complete the course early. Students are not expected to submit assignments during the weekends and holidays. All course material is posted at the start of the course. You can move through the material as fast as you want, with the expectation that you will submit assignments by the stated due dates. I have prepared daily units that will parallel time frames expected for each day, in order to provide a strategy for a pace that allows for review and completion of the material daily.
The evaluation of the student's progress and learning throughout the course relies on many different forms of engagement. Student will be assessed using article reviews, an iterative injury management handbook, discussion board assignments, a culminate final project, and short standardized quizzes.
