Section Description

The goal of NFS 063 is to develop a basic understanding of the Who, What, When, Where and Why of the obesity epidemic. My hope is also to have you all appreciate the pros and cons of various treatment and prevention options so that you can all contribute to the solution. The objectives are: 1. Read a variety of published literature on the topics of nutrition and obesity and critically identify the main points and scientific evidence behind the articles. 2. Interpret graphs and charts related to obesity. 3. Define clinical obesity and understand its causes and consequences; both biological and environmental. 4. Identify appropriate obesity treatment and prevention options.

Section Expectation

Students will view course lessons, read required readings, post to the discussion board and blog weekly. They will also be expected to take weekly brief knowledge checks and complete 3 exams.

Evaluation

Discussion board and blog posts are graded as are the weekly knowledge checks and 3 exams.
