Daniel Benner

This was my second year in college at Pellissippi State Community College. It has been a pretty good experience. The classes are small and the teachers are personable. There is not much campus life or anything going on much because it is a commuter only school. I finished my first semester of second year Dec. 11th and I plan to graduate in May 2003. I have continued to work painting with Dad on my days off from school which are Tuesday and Thursday. I have enjoyed that and he treats me well.
In March, Steve and I went to Fresno, CA, to visit Julie and Jeremy and that was great. We spent spring break there and even got to go to Yosemite and the coast. We surfed in a little town called Cayucos. During the summer I painted with Dad every day and a couple of my friends who are in college, Daniel Park and Daniel Haire (who we call Hairey) worked with us. So it was the Daniel trio.
I have been working with the junior high at Two Rivers Church for about 2 years now and it has been great getting to follow the kids through middle school. I enjoy hanging out with them a lot and since I am “single” at this point, ha, I do stuff with the group of eighth graders frequently. This summer we did a mission trip here in Knoxville called Operation Backyard. We have done it three years now and my job was the supervising of painting the dorms in which we stayed for the week. We lived at Knoxville College, which is pretty run down, but we painted two floors of dorm rooms and the entry way to the building. It was a good experience with the kids and kids from other churches who we worked with.
Going to Garden City, S.C., in June with much of Dad’s family, Julie and Jeremy, and Grandma and Grandpa was great. Dad, Steve, and I went to Hilton Head, S.C. in August to play golf and go to the beach for 3 or 4 days. I still enjoy sports very much. I play basketball at the Health Club and at Church. I still think that golf is my favorite right now though. I have gotten into mountain biking very much over the past three years and enjoy riding with Hairey and others from church.
I am planning to transfer to The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in the fall. God has been good to me where I am right now and He has great plans for me. I will major in Business at school and we will see where that takes me. I have really grown in Him working with the junior high ministry. Bobby Whisman, who is the youth leader for junior high, has really allowed me to be involved in leading guys small groups and even speaking on Sunday nights. God has been faithful to provide work for Dad so that I can always have a good job. Hopefully next year will be even better than this year. God is good and He continues to bless me!
