Homework will be handed out during most Monday class meetings and will be due at the following Monday class, unless otherwise stated. The logical development of the theory and the problem solving depend heavily on what has come before. For this reason, it is imperative that you keep current; don’t fall behind.
Homework will be graded in the following manner:
On time full credit
One class session late 20% penalty
More than one class session late no credit
This policy is intended to help you keep current, so that you get the most out of the course. To keep the policy from seeming too draconian, you will each be awarded one “get out of homework free” card which you are free to use at your discretion.
Collaboration on homework problems is encouraged. However, remember: The final piece of work that you hand in must be your own, it must bear your personal stamp of thinking processes and you must understand completely what you have done, how you did it and why.
Periodically, you will be asked to present your solution to one or more homework problems in class. Normally, this will be arranged when the homework problems are assigned (i.e. one week ahead of time, so that you have plenty of time to prepare). The purpose of these presentations is to 1) increase class participation, 2) make sure that you understand the material.
