Facilities

Facility Operations Attendant (FOA)

General Responsibilities:
Facility Operation Attendants oversee activities in several areas of the Athletic Complex including: the Fitness Center, Gutterson Rink, and Turf/Tennis Facility.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Provide quality customer service for all patrons
  • Ensure equipment is clean, presentable, and usable
  • Organize weights and fitness center accessories
  • Monitor safety of all patrons
  • Provide emergency assistance as needed
  • Educate patrons and enforce policies and procedures regarding safe and proper use of the equipment and facility
  • Enforce ID policy and make sure all patrons using the facility have an active pass
  • Contribute to a positive work environment

Member Services Representative (MSR)

General Responsibilities:
A Member Services Representative helps provides customer service and assistance to all patrons who are seeking information in the Athletic Complex.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Provide high quality customer service for all patrons
  • Serve as the front line office personnel
  • Collect payment for equipment purchases and outstanding balances
  • Rent out equipment
  • Assist walk-in and phone-in customers by providing accurate and timely information regarding memberships, programs, policies, building hours, facility schedules, and other Campus Recreation information
  • Troubleshoot facility access issues using facility management software
  • Contribute to a positive work environment
  • Other duties as assigned

Facility Operations Supervisor

General Responsibilities:
Facility Operations Supervisors monitor the entire PFG Athletic Complex and serve as a first aid responder to any situation that may arise. All Facility Operations Supervisors will be CPR, First Aid, and AED Certified through the American Red Cross as part of their employment training.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and assist all hourly staff on duty
  • Provide corrective and positive feedback to employees in various areas
  • Respond to accidents and incidents as they occur, ensuring all emergency protocols are followed
  • Provide customer service to all participants and provide them either a solution of their concerns or the name of a resource they could contact for further assistance
  • Ensure facility safety and security
  • Assist with equipment check out and patron membership information as needed
  • Utilize activity and room schedules for the Athletic Complex and inform patrons of any information they may need to know

Fitness Facility Specialist

General Responsibilities:
Assist the Assistant Director of Operations with management of fitness facilities including the Gucciardi Fitness Center, Gutterson Multi Purpose Room, Dance Studio, and upper level track.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Inspect, maintain, clean and perform minor repairs on fitness equipment such as treadmills, cycles, climbers, ellipticals, and resistance training equipment.
  • Communicate with the Fitness Center Attendants
  • Monitor compliance with cleaning/inspection duties
  • Other duties as assigned

LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES: The Specialist will learn several aspects regarding the management of a busy and large fitness facility.

REQUIREMENTS: Candidate must have interest in working with tools and a desire to learn more about various fitness equipment. Responsible and detail oriented individuals are important. Experience with minor repairs and working knowledge of basic tools preferred.

Fitness Programs

Group Fitness Instructor

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Instruct group fitness classes in a fun, motivating, effective, safe, and organized manner. Attend pre-scheduled meetings/training. Early morning, lunch time, evening and weekend hours available. Possible class formats are unlimited and include traditional, cardio (kickboxing, step), mind/body (yoga, pilates), strength, Spinning, dance, and sport conditioning formats. We are looking for charismatic, outgoing individuals who have passion for team work, fitness, and their participant’s experience.

REQUIREMENTS: Group Fitness Certification by ACE, AFAA, NETA and work experience preferred but not necessary - we will train and mentor ideal candidates (especially UVM students). Must have current CPR & AED certification. Desire to learn and work as part of a team is essential. Fitness Supervisor (Studio Assistant, Administrative Assistant, & ID Checker) -
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: A Fitness Supervisor is a threefold work study role with Campus Recreation Fitness Programs.  It consists of providing excellent customer service when processing participants into class using Rec Trac software, assisting with administrative duties and acting as support staff for group fitness instructor’s/programming. Staff must attend all staff meetings and trainings. This is an hourly, part-time position.

REQUIREMENTS: Preference will be given to students pursuing a personal training and/or group fitness certification. Previous experience in administrative duties, customer service, and staff supervision recommended. A CPR, AED and First Aid certification or ability to be certified in 30 days from hire is required (UVM Campus Recreation hosts certifications for current employees). Shifts: Some early mornings, mid-day, evenings, and weekend hours may be necessary. Desire to learn and work as part of a team is essential. Intramural Sports

Intramural Sports Official

Intramural Sports Officials are responsible for providing an atmosphere of fun in a competitive, yet safe, environment. Officials must be able to implement Intramural Sports policies and playing rules in order to maintain an appropriate level of control, fairness, and safety. They should maintain a positive attitude on-site and should always be striving to improve their officiating skills.

Requirements

  • General knowledge of sports, rules, and intramural sports policies
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous officiating experience
  • Prior customer service experience
  • Knowledge and experience with multiple sports (playing or officiating)
  • Ability to handle stressful situations and resolve conflict

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Officiate Intramural Sports contests
  • Assist with pre and post-game set-up/tear-down and inspection of game sites
  • Understand emergency/evacuation procedures
  • Provide positive public relations, program promotion, and policy education to participants
  • Attend all required meetings and trainings
  • Provide a friendly, upbeat and customer service oriented environment at all times

Intramural Sports Scorekeeper & Office Assistant 

Intramural Scorekeepers & Office Assistants are to assist with the Intramural Sports Program in general.  As a scorekeeper their main duty is to make sure each night of intramural sports is run smoothly through check in and score keeping of each contest.  As an Office Assistant, the main function is to assist in conducting all operations that occur in the Intramural Sports Office. 

Requirements

  • Must have federal work-study award
  • Have basic computer skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Candidates should possess strong communication skills
  • Be team oriented
  • Have a willingness to learn about sports they are scorekeeping 
  • Provide quality customer service to the campus community and guests

  • Work with officials to rate sportsmanship for each contest and record conduct issues
  • Assist with difficult situations or altercations that may occur during games 
  • Enter nightly score and stats into Intramural Sports software
  • Preparing game management materials under the direction of the Assistant Director of Intramural Sports
  • Answer the phone or talk to people seeking information in person about activities using good customer service skills
  • Promote participation in our activities through positive attitude and behavior
  • Assist in promoting good public relations by being courteous, friendly, and informative

Intramural Sports Supervisor

The Intramural Sports Supervisor reports to the Intramural Sports Coordinator and ultimately to the Assistant Director of Intramural Sports.  Serving as the on-site supervisor for a designated sport per shift and as the leader of a group of workers on that shift, the group is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive game management service for all Intramural Sports related events; such as Intramural Sport Programs.  The Intramural Sports Supervisor is responsible for field preparations, event set-ups, concurrent event management, and event take-down.

Requirements

  • Minimum of one semesters experience as an Intramural Sport employee
  • Obtain and Maintain a current CPR/AED/First Aid certification while employed
  • Ability to delegate and supervise peers
  • Must possess good organization skills and be detail oriented
  • Be a positive role model at work and maintain a good attitude
  • Experience working in a customer service-oriented environment
  • Awareness of safety concerns and risk management, available through training

Office Assistant for PEAC Program

Head Lifeguard

General Responsibilities:
The Head Lifeguard is considered second in command and must be willing to administer all of the duties listed here as well as any other duties that coincide with the position.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Provide thoughtful consideration of all programs, events, and activities with safety as the number one priority of the patrons utilizing the pool.
  • Assist in the on-going training for lifeguards that includes in-service trainings.
  • Assist in administrative duties of staffing communication.
  • Understand and responsibly implement policies and procedures of the Campus Recreation Office.
  • Assist in preparing and leading of staff meetings.
  • Provide regular and accurate communication with the Facility Operations Manager regarding the staff, the programs, administrative components and pool facility needs and issues.

Marketing Assistant

General Responsibilities: Campus Recreation Marketing Assistants work with the Assistant Director of Marketing & Communications on daily projects associated with the promotion and marketing of the Campus Rec brand and programming initiatives. Successful candidates have special interest in marketing, public relations, social media, advertising, and/or related fields with great office, organizational, and communication skills.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Update marketing signage through the Athletic/Rec Complex as well as across campus
  • Maintain a broad social media calendar
