in 1977 for major application conversion; used ever since.

Concurrent users: 300-400

Applications: Notis(LUIS), FRS, HRS

Characteristics

Very reliable, stable, and secure; can handle large numbers of interactive users with decent performance. Ability to:

1. run other operating systems(including itself) as guests
2. run multiple copies of the same OS
3. run multiple versions of the same OS
4. create, modify and test OS code on production system without special priviledges

Currently used at UVM for:

• Running multiple operating environments, including production and test versions of VSE/ESA on ES9000
• CMS is used for interactive access, program development & maintenance, statistical analysis (SAS), email, calendaring/scheduling (PROFS) and small database applications (FOCUS).

 

Future at UVM:

Will likely be replaced by less proprietary systems over next few years.
