About your textbook

PSYC 001 is now using a state-of-the-art online learning platform. It replaces a conventional textbook and your access to it is paid for with the $35 textbook fee (deeply discounted from the standard cost, $99).

To learn more about it, see the developer's web page:

iClicker in-class response device -- on-campus students only

In addition, students taking the course on campus are required to have an iClicker in-class response device. These are also available at the UVM Store. Any version of the iClicker handset will work.

Students will need an iClicker starting the third week of classes (after the add/drop period is over). If you already have an iClicker, you do not need to buy a new one. If its serial number is no longer readable, we have a couple of ways to get that information.

NOTE: We will not be using the web version of iClickers, which work with a web-enabled device. You will need to have a handset and bring it to class.

Registration overrides

To request an override, e-mail psyc001@uvm.edu. We will process requests as soon as we are able. Note that section C is limited to students who have declared psychology as a major, and there are no exceptions to this policy.

Online version of PSYC 001

About your textbook

The online version of PSYC 001 uses this text:

https://students.flatworldknowledge.com/course/2376683

Note that you will need to register at the publisher's site to gain access to the course's page. Also note that the book is available, used, from many sources, and if you get a copy that way, make sure that it is the first edition. Later editions do not align with the online elements of the class. In addition, there is no information in any of the ancillary materials that is covered on exams.

Blackboard

The course's Blackboard space will be available on the first day of the first summer semester (Monday, May 18). The course is in a 'self-paced, mastery-based' format. You can learn more about that at this link. Also, as noted above, students in the online version of PSYC 001 do NOT need an iClicker.

Syllabus

You can see the syllabus from prior semesters at the link above. In addition, you can see a video with more information about the course's structure by clicking this link.
