With recent amendments to the Student Right to Know and Campus Security Act of 1990 (re-named the Clery Act), we are now able to publish our campus safety information for the university community via the World Wide Web. The University of Vermont's annual security report includes statistics for the previous three completed calendar years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings owned or controlled by UVM; and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus. The report includes institutional policies concerning alcohol and drug abuse, crime prevention, the reporting of crime, sexual assault, and other important information and resource referrals. The UVM Police Services assigns an incident number for all reportable activities, both criminal and non-criminal. Crimes are in chronological order.
According to Federal Law, an institution may withhold any of the required fields of entry, i.e. the nature, date, time, location and/or disposition if any of the following conditions apply:
Crime & Fire Log Disposition Definitions (effective January 1, 2004)
The following is an explanation of the terminology used to complete the Disposition section of the Police Services Crime & Fire Log:
|Open Incident||The incident is currently being investigated by UVM Police Services|
|Unfounded||The case is determined through investigation to be false or baseless. No offense occurred or was attempted.|
|Closed; referred to Department||The case was referred to the appropriate supervisory employee or to UVM Human Resources. Those departments review the case and determine if disciplinary action will be initiated.|
|Closed; referred to Outside Agency||The case is being investigated by a law enforcement agency other than UVM Police Services. The specific agency will be identified in the disposition.|
|Closed; referred to CSES||The case has been forwarded to the Center for Student Ethics and Standards. CSES is responsible for reviewing the case and determining whether or not the student(s) involved with be charged with a violation(s) of the Student Code of Conduct. May also include detoxification status if brought to Emergency Department, ACT 1, or VT Department of Corrections.|
|Closed. Off campus incident||Closed. Case occurred off campus. UVM Police Services did not investigate.|
|Closed; subject trespassed||Subject has been issued a trespass notice which restricts the subject from entering or accessing any or all university property. A violation of trespass notice may result in an arrest.|
|Closed; subject arrested||The subject(s) has been arrested.|
