Tree Fruit: Brown Marmorated Stinkbug in Vermont

Growers should be aware of an emerging pest of great importance: the brown marmorated stink bug. This highly invasive pest was recently documented in the state of Vermont and can be devastating to many agricultural crops including tree fruits and grapes. It feeds in both the adult and nymphal stages and therefore can cause significant damage throughout the growing season. This true bug is highly active and has shown resistance to standard integrated pest management insecticide applications in states where the population is widespread. It is important that we closely monitor our vineyards and stay as informed as possible as the threat emerges here in Vermont.
