The Office of Health Promotion Research and the Vermont Cancer Center at the College of Medicine, University of Vermont seeks applicants for a faculty position as a behavioral scientist concerned with population-level communications interventions related to cancer prevention and control. The Office of Health Promotion Research is an independent research center within the College of Medicine created in 1983. Its primary foci are development and evaluation of health behavior interventions and health behavior surveillance. This highly integrated research unit currently consists of four full time research faculty, a highly skilled research staff, and numerous affiliates working in a team-oriented atmosphere. The Vermont Cancer Center is an NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center, funded since 1978. Please also see www.uvm.edu/~ohpr/ and www.vermontcancer.org.
Responsibilities:
• provide leadership for current research projects in population-level communications interventions concerned with cancer prevention and control, including tobacco use prevention and cessation
• develop new research projects in related areas over the first three years of the appointment
Qualifications:
• broad expertise in health behavior intervention design and evaluation
• knowledge of health behavior theory and research methods
• demonstrated success in obtaining peer-reviewed funding for research projects
• demonstrated success in peer-reviewed research publications
• doctoral degree in a behavioral or social science or public health discipline such as health education, communications, psychology or sociology
Salary: The College of Medicine, University of Vermont offers competitive salaries.
Academic appointment will be arranged to meet the needs of the successful applicant. Current faculty members hold research appointments in academic departments of either the College Medicine or the College of Arts and Sciences.
