Phone Options:

There are many "phone booths" in stores or places that are only for making phone calls. You go into the booth, make your call to the US and pay when you are finished

You can buy phone cards that you can use with Telcel phones that are on the streets

You can buy an "Amigo Kit", a cell phone and sim card in Oaxaca for 30.00 or less. You can buy recharge cards at almost any store. All incoming calls and text messages are free. Best used for text messages, the calls can add up quickly. We can help you with that in Oaxaca.

If you have an "unlocked" GSM phone (Unicel) you can use that it in Oaxaca. You have to buy a Telcel sim card for your phone. You can buy recharge cards everywhere.

Phone Card for Calling from the US to Mexico Landlines and Cell Phones:

I have had good luck using PINGO. The calls have been clear and very easy to make. Once you sign up, you can "register" your the phone numbers that you make calls from so you don't have to enter a pin . Then you can put the numbers you want to call on speed dial. It is 15 cents a minute to call a cell phone. Even with Skype, it costs 38 cents a minute to call a cell phone in Mexico.

Using Skype:

Skype works very well from Mexico. It is free to call computer to computer. So have your friends and families set up Skype on their computers. You can also call telephones in the US for about 2 cents a minute. Many cafes also have Skype on their computers.
