Group Facilitation

Purpose: Everyone will have the opportunity to facilitate a Thursday seminar. The purpose is to give you experience in the role of facilitator and to learn collaborative practices. These seminars will be an opportunity to connect your classroom learning to your experiences at Burlington High School.

Your job as facilitator:

1. Develop a question that connects your field experience with your courses at UVM-something for the group to reflect on and discuss when it’s to share

2. Develop the agenda, move through the agenda

3. Decide on roles for the next week.

Agenda: The agenda will have a basic format. Your job will be to see if anyone has anything to add to the agenda. The basic structure of the agenda:

1. Housekeeping/Announcements/Technical questions - ask the group if anyone has any   announcements, housekeeping issues.... write down their names

2. Group sharing/processing - share the question with the group

3. Set the roles for the next week- facilitator, timekeeper, recorder.

Ask if anyone has anything they would like to add to the agenda.

Set times - check to see what time it is - we might want to have additional roles - a timekeeper to keep track of time and maybe a recorder to keep a record of our discussions - certainly to write down the roles for then next week!!
