Semantic Feature Analysis
Semantic Feature Analysis encourages
students to analyze vocabulary by identifying key characteristics and comparing
these characteristics with other known concepts. Through the use of
a matrix grid, students are able to code key vocabulary or concepts for a
visual reference of how they are similar or different.
-
List three or four key
features that these words may share.
-
Students use a + or – to
show if the targeted word contains the feature.
-
Students offer additional
terms or features to be included in the matrix.
-
Students develop generalizations
about how each word is unique from other related concepts due to the unique
features that the word contains.
