Anticipation Guides
Anticipation Guides are designed
to forecast the major ideas contained in a passage through the use of statements
that activates students’ thoughts and opinions.
-
Before reading. Students
respond to several statements that challenge or support their preconceived
ideas about key concepts. The most effective statements are those about
which the students have some knowledge, but do not have a complete understanding.
-
While reading. Students
focus on information that confirms, elaborates, or rejects the anticipation
guide statements.
-
After reading. Students
can re-write any statements that need to be altered.
