A:shiwi Elementary School
A:shiwi Elementary School is where Curtis and Griffin go to school in Zuni.
Its one of 2 public elementary schools in town. The outside of the school is a
pretty earthy-pink color with off white lines that looks like the sandstone
mesas that are all around. (the sandstone looks like it has horizonal lines
because they are formed by layers of sediment when this was all underwater
millions of years ago). A:shiwi is the Zuni word for "people," meaning the
Zuni people.

Zuni Pueblo
Zuni Pueblo is a picture of the town of Zuni from the mesa community of Black
Rock, which is where we live.

Black Rock
Black Rock is a picture of the mesa where we live. Its on Zuni reservation,
just outside of the main village of Zuni. Other communties here on Zuni are
Ojo Caliente, Pescado, and Nutria Canyon. We live in the part of town that is
near the hospital. Black Rock is named for the appearance of this mesa. The
black rock, which I think you can see in this picture, is actually basalt.
Basalt is volcanic rock. We live on a volcanic flow from thousands of years
ago!
