Lake Willoughby Page

Welcome to the mystic shores of Lake Willoughby, located south of Barton and north of West Burke. The bathing season is year round, although one has to bring along an ax to get through the ice between New Year and early May. In fall 1998 the weather was warmer than usual, so that as of early December, the water temperature was still a balmy 41 degrees Fahrenheit (5 degrees Celcius). The water heats up to about 70 degrees Fahrenheit (20 degrees Celsius) in a warm summer. The beach reopened again late April 1999, with a few ice patches still floating.
