Students are expected to attend all classes, to read the assigned texts thoroughly and critically, and to participate in class discussions, including the e-mail discussion list. While attendance does not constitute a specific percentage of the final grade, your overall pattern of attendance will be taken into consideration when your final grade is determined.
Written requirements include: a in-class quiz on Buddhist terms, a series of critical response papers based on class readings, and a ritual research project.

If you have any questions about these regulations, you should speak to the instructor for further clarification. Ignorance will not be considered a legitimate excuse for infringement of these regulations. Violations of the standards of academic honesty will be reported.
Religious Holidays: Students have the right to practice the religion of their choice. Each semester students should submit in writing to their instructors by the end of the second full week of classes their documented religious holiday schedule for the semester.
The various course assignments count toward your final grade as follows:
- class participation—20%
- quiz on Buddhist terms—15%
- critical response papers—30%
- ritual research project—35%

September 4: Critical response paper due
September 13: Critical response paper due
September 20: Critical response paper due
October 4: In-class quiz on Buddhist terms
October 9: Site identification statement due in class
October 11: Critical response paper due
October 23: First draft of community profile due in class
October 23: Critical response paper due
November 6: Final draft of community profile due in class
November 8: Detailed field notes, including map, due in class
November 15: Critical response paper due
November 27: Extra critical response paper due if you choose to submit it
November 29: Critical response paper due
December 6: Final research report due in class
All written requirements must be submitted in a timely fashion in order to pass the course.
