Palm Calendar

The Oracle Calendar Sync utility for Palm or PocketPC synchronizes your handheld's Date Book with your Oracle Calendar account on our Oracle server, so you must have an internet connection and connect your palm device to your computer via included cable for this to work. Note: This utility does NOT synchronize your calendar over the internet, but only through the cable. This utility does not function under Windows Vista as of this writing.

You must install the Oracle Calendar client version 10 before you are able to install the Oracle Calendar Sync version 10. If you're not sure what version you have, start up Oracle Calendar and BEFORE YOU LOG IN check the login screen for the version number. It should be written in small text near the bottom of the window. If you have version 9 or lower, the version number will be written to the left of title on the login screen. Please uninstall it and download the new version from www.uvm.edu/software. You can find instructions for installing the Calendar client at www.uvm.edu/cit/calendar.

Once you've installed the Oracle Calendar Sync utility your Handheld will no longer sync its date book with Palm Desktop or Outlook. All the other conduits will stay as they are.

You must have gone through the basic setup of your device before configuring it to sync with your Oracle account.

Setting up your Palm to sync with Oracle Calendar on Windows:

  1. Download the Oracle Calendar Sync for Palm utility from www.uvm.edu/software.
  2. Run the install file.
  3. Click Next at the first install screen.
  4. Click Next to install in the default location.
  5. Choose Custom (instead of Complete) and click Next.
  6. Click the pulldown menu next to Address Conduit, and choose the red X - "This feature will not be available."
  7. Feel free to do the same to To Do list, if you don't want your Oracle account's To Do List syncing with your Palm, then click Next
  8. Click Install, then Finish when it's done.
  9. The Settings windows should pop up.
    • Put your UVM NetID username and password in the required spaces.
    • Type "calendar.uvm.edu" in the box under Server.
    • Type "10000" in the box under Node.
    • The only other thing you'll probably be interested in here in the Settings, is the Date Range category under the Date Book heading. You can change how far into the future and past your Palm will sync with your calendar. I recommend leaving the past and future settings as they are (1 week) for the first time you synchronize, but feel free to change the future setting to whatever you want afterwards. Most people tend to want to sync 6 - 12 months into the future.
    • Click OK.
  10. Sync your Palm. A new Oracle Calendar Synchronization window should now pop up every time you sync.

Setting up your Palm to sync with Oracle Calendar on Mac OS X:

  1. Download the Oracle Calendar Sync for Palm utility from www.uvm.edu/software
  2. Run the downloaded install file.
  3. Click the lock icon, and enter your system password, and the installer will automatically install the program....sometimes this takes a while
  4. Before syncing, we need to fix the conduits.
  5. The next thing we need to do before syncing is get ready to install the Configuration Utility to your Palm.
  6. Now you're ready to hotsync! Put your Palm in it's cradle (if it's not there already) and push the hotsync button.
  7. When it's done, you should get a message saying there were errors. This is normal, just click Okay.
  8. We need to set up your Oracle Calendar account information on the Palm.
  9. Now do another hotsync. Your Oracle Calendar meetings should now show up on your Palm.
