The Fourth Castle

Our Homely Home

Given the prevailing winds, the fact that it has clung intact to its site demonstrates an unsuspected survival instinct. It is Norse in spirit, if not in origin.

It is also epic in history:
The name "Fourth Castle" is taken from the movie "Monty Python and the Holy Grail", in which a Yorkshire king brags of the strength of his castle, based mostly on the fortuitous combination of fanaticism and the law of averages. His previous three castles had fallen over, burnt, and/or sunk into the local swamp, but the fourth one, built on the ruins of its predecessors, "stayed oop!"

Our house has had a fire, is built on a swamp, and shows every intention of falling over, partially or in chorus, in any given direction at any given time. The name fits, if only for the sheer pig-headed rejection of the powers of Time, Space, Nature and Gravity.
