My personal definition of "home page":
Sometimes I think about this collection of data that I refer to as my "home page", and I
wonder..
is my home page simply the formal
index.html
where we arrive first?
Or is it also everything
else I've linked it to?
Why is it here?
Am I adding information to this piece of the web because
- I want to show off?
- educate myself?
- educate others?
- prove something to myself?
- to the world?
- I need to create and organize?
- keep up with my pals?
- Maybe it's another sneaky way to explore my identity.
Or perhaps
...it's simply a place I've carved for myself, to deposit the links I like, in
a way that I like at the time. ...as a home page that I want to wake up to, when I
begin my browsing.
For my convenience.
In my mind,
one of the defining features of
my home page is
that
I have the freedom to
make it up
as
I
go along.
So,
I'm going to finish this
statement with that
in mind.
The porpoises (orf orf!) of my home page are:
- To make myself more findable, if anyone wants to look for my page, or my existence, on the web.
- So that when people do find me, they have something to see.
- To be a place for me to organize my own reference list of links, presented the way I like and available from any web browser anywhere, mostly.
- To give me something to work on when I want to be antisocial or pretend I can program.
- As a means of expression, and for absolute fun!
Because the web was made to be explored and looked at - because pages ARE for display, I
hope you will be glad you visited this page, for one reason or another. But, since I
probably visit it 50 times for every one time someone else does, you can probably understand
why it's a fairly self-centered set of pages. If you have any ideas along this "what and why is a home page?" line, please write to me.
A sandwich for the road: As you are exploring my home page, please remember:
Randomness and uniformity have little in common.
