Some Of My Favorite Web Sites And/Or Subjects:

Note: This page contains a number of tiny pictures, so it might take a minute to load. Please be a bit patient, thanks!

~ Music Related ~

[Picture of Talking Heads] My absolute favorite band of all times by far is the Talking Heads. There is a fair amount of random info about them on the web. Here's CDUniverse's list of some Talking Heads albums.

[Picture of
They Might Be Giants] Here's an informal They Might Be Giants web page. TMBG has changed my life. Then again, so have gravity and cottage cheese.

[Three Mile Limit logo]Three Mile Limit describe themselves as "an acoustic progressive folk-rock group". They have played at First Night in Burlington for two years running, and they're definitely one of the coolest bands in the Burlington, VT area.

[Picture of Cris and
Tret] Cris Williamson has been one of my favorite songwriters/ vocalists since I was a child.. she and Tret Fure, another cool person, have a web page now!

~ Educational/Academic ~

[DLC-ME logo] One of my all-time favorites is the Digital Learning Center for Microbial Ecology. The name itself is exciting! There is lots of graphical information about a variety of common microscopic organisms here, and the graphics are very cute.

[MendelWeb
logo] Then there is MendelWeb, an interesting site that I haven't checked out in enough detail to describe it here. And here is an article about the site, written by MendelWeb's creator, Roger B. Blumberg and appearing in The Sciences, a fantastic magazine - one of the only that I actually subscribe to and read cover to cover.

[Picture of
Penguins] This is a link to a neat bunch of web pages containing archives of a trip made by a third grade teacher from Virginia, a seventeen year old Chicago girl, and a research team to the South Pole Infrared Explorer telescope (SPIREX) and other Anarctic research sites. It has a lot of other educational information and cool frequently updated images. Yum!

Science Question of the Week, a cool column off of the NASA web site!

[Sketch of a Goldfish]This may seem redundant, but in case you missed the link off my home page, here is a list of some great resources on freshwater and marine fish, and aquatic plants that I compiled.

A.Word.A.Day a list that sends you one word, its definition, and a quote, every day. Also check out their anagram server!!

[AZA logo]Zoos used to be places only slightly more humane than circuses, where animals, after being caught from their native homes and often brutalized, were confined in unnatural environments, and lived a miserable and often short existence. Things have changed. Many zoos are now involved in important conservation programs, captive breeding programs, and programs designed to help protect wild animals and their habitats through education. Here is a The American Zoo and Aquarium Association's home page. Enjoy!

[Icon of Periodic Table] Web Elements is a cool site where you can get online info about every element on the periodic table. There are several other sites like this around, too.

[CRaYON Logo] Here is my newspaper, which I hardly ever read. If you'd like to read a customized newspaper (complete with weather, funnies, local and international news - or not, if you choose), try visiting CRAYON (CReAte Your Own Newspaper) - it's the greatest thing since the invention of mouli graters.. or something like that.

[Sketch of Grinning Person in Cave] Are you interested in caves or caving? If so, here's a link to Yale's Speleology Information Server.

~ Environmental and Conservation Oriented ~

[NASA logo]NASA, or the National Aeronautics and Space Administration ~ "As explorers, pioneers, and innovators, we boldly expand frontiers in air and space to inspire and serve America and to benefit the quality of life on Earth." Click on their logo to read more!

[WWF Logo]WWF is the world's largest and most experienced independent conservation organization, with over 4.7 million supporters. It is dedicated to reversing the destruction of the Earth's natural environment and building a future in which humans live in harmony with nature. Sounds good to me!

The Aquatic Conservation Network is an international organization dedicated to the conservation of aquatic life and with a focus on freshwater fishes. The ACN's head office is in Ottawa, Canada. It is a non-profit charitable organization registered in both Canada and the U.S.A.

[Living
Technologies Logo] A Living Machine is an effective and economical system for biological treatment of sewage and high strength industrial wastewater. Living Machines incorporate and accelerate the processes nature uses to purify water. With the help of sunlight and a managed environment, a diversity of organisms including bacteria, plants, snails and fish break down and digest organic pollutants.

[U.S. Fish and Wildlife
Service Logo]U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service - Their mission is to conserve, protect, and enhance fish and wildlife and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people.

~ Recreational stuff ~

[Sketch of Kid] One of my favorite sites, even though it's fairly empty, is a site set aside to catalog games that we played as children. If you visit it and contribute, of course, it will be that much less empty! *hint*

[Sketch
of Kite] A very recent interest of mine is the hobby/art of kite-making. There are many internet sites dedicated to marketing kites, or explaining how to make them. One of the best I've seen so far is Anthony's Kite Workshop.

[TheDJ Logo] Are you wondering what to do with the cool multimedia computer you just got with the nifty sound support and that nice fast modem? Wish you could have a radio in your office? Want to look like a hip computer guru? Check out TheDJ.

[Rhombus Logo] This is a link to a Burlington, VT based company called Rhombus Communications, Inc. (186 College St.) Rhombus is a multi-disciplined communications corporation specializing in CD-ROM and multimedia development, Web design and hosting, 3D animation and design, Distributed applications development and more.. They have a web-based gallery, and their office space also includes a constantly changing physical art gallery, Check it out!

~ Other More Serious Resources ~

The following sites are resources that might make some folks a little nervous. Any psycho killers out there? ...the quest to remain obscure continues, against the climbing odds... If you want to hunt down someone's e-mail or US mail address, you might try WhoWhere or SwitchBoard. If you want information on a commercial company or business, you might try BigBook. Also, Nynex has an online version of their phonebook, and if you want to chart your bike ride for the day, try using MapQuest.

Here are some images of missing children. Click on the picture for more information, or to search for a child in their database. I can't say it's one of my "favorite" sites, but I think it's a good idea, and it's an important step.

[VTW Logo] Voter's Telecommunication Watch, a web site with current information about censorship, and what you can do to prevent it.

[Coalition on
Donation Logo] The Coalition on Donation, an alliance of national organizations and local coalitions whose goal is to ensure that every individual in the United States understands the need for organ and tissue donation and accepts donation as a fundamental human responsibility.

I can't help but throw this in here. Yahoo has a service where they will provide you with a semi-random link, which has always been fun.

[Planned
Parenthood logo]Planned Parenthood has a web site! If you aren't familiar with this organization, check it out. If you are, check it out. :-)

This an admittedly neglected page - I don't have much time for web surfing these days... but hopefully it's given you a random taste of something or other.
