Criminal Record Check Information

Human Development & Family Studies

Human Development and Family Studies majors may be required by individual agencies to complete the CRC to be eligible for an internship in a specific agency. It is also important to note that membership in professional associations upon graduation, at least in the case of most social work organizations, typically requires a criminal background check as does employment in an ever-increasing number of human service agencies.

Teacher Education

Students enrolled in the Teacher Education programs are required to complete the CRC to be eligible for the public school teaching internship and may also be required to complete the CRC during the first-year, sophomore and junior years. Each individual school makes the determination concerning the first-year, sophomore and junior experiences, but it is a State requirement that all students complete the CRC for eligibility to student teach.

The cost for fingerprints and FBI processing is covered by each individual student and is subject to change.

  1. Students are required to complete the Criminal Background Check to be eligible for a school placement. They must connect with the school in which they have been placed and pay the fee for the Criminal Records Check.
  2. School personnel generate a letter on their letterhead that verifies both the placement and that the fee has been paid.
  3. UVM Police Services (and other Police Departments) encourage students to call in advance to get their fingerprints taken. Students are required to bring the school verification letter, two forms of identification and a postage paid (currently $1.08) 9x12 manila envelope with them. The Police Department is required to mail the fingerprint(s) directly to the VCIC.
