Assignment:
- Plan out your major (or a major you are considering): what
courses do you need to take? When will you take each one?
- To find details about any major or minor:
- Use "Academic
Offerings A-Z"
- This is a link to the UVM catalogue, not individual
departments (but the information should be the same)
- Or use "UVM A-Z" to
find departments
- Majors (and minors) are usually explained by clicking a
link like "undergraduate degrees" on the left hand side of the page.
- To find individual courses:
- Use the catalogue "Browse
Courses by Subject"
- Usually, courses are also listed via a link on the left hand
side of department pages.
- Now plan a second major.
- And a minor.
- What is a "MAJOR"?
- 30 or more credits in a single area: about 10 courses
- 15 or more at the 100-level or higher
- What is a "MINOR"?
- 18 or so credits in a single area: about 6 credits
- 9 or more at the 100-level or higher
- How many credits does it take to graduate?
- 120 (about 35-40 courses)
- So, technically, it might be possible to quadruple major!
- What is "honors"
- In the senior year, take two 3-credit courses in your major
called "Thesis"
- Write about five 20-page research papers that center around a
topic.
- There are minimum qualifications in terms of GPA
