Map Assignment for Trojan War
Use the map distributed in class.
As part of your quiz for next Friday, please label on the map handed
out in class the following:
If you do not find it on the map, draw it in (for example, if it is
an island, and there is no island on this map where it should be,
draw an island and label it: if it is a city and there is no dot on
the map where it should be, put a dot on the map and label it). If
it is not anywhere on this map, as is true of Ethiopia, put a label
on the appropriate edge of the map). Most, but not all, items are
relevant to Iliad.
- Troy (i.e. the site that is usually identified with the Troy
of the Trojan War)
- Athens
- Sparta
- Olympia (where Olympic games were held)
- Crete
- Thrace
- The Peloponnese
- Boeotia
- Pylos
- Argos
- Mycenae (aka Mykhenai)
- Argos
- Adriatic Sea
- Aegean Sea
- Ithaca
- Lesbos
- Lemnos
- Tenedos
- Mt. Ida (where Zeus sits)
- Mt. Olympus
- Lycia (whence Sarpedon and Glaukos)
- Salamis (whence Teucer and an Ajax)

Please find out how far it is from Aulis in Boeotia to Troy (in a
straight line, not that that would be possible in ancient times,
as well as an approximation of how long it is along the coast).
