- The following is a division of Euripides' Helen divided
into scenes.
- You can change any and all of the words: I would encourage you
to add in characters of any sort you please.
- BUT, it has to start at the right place in the plot and move
the plot forward to the right place for the next scene: i.e.
change whatever you want, but make it such that the next scene
can follow without too much trouble.
- Euripides' Helen:
- 1-141:
- cast: 3 Helens, Teukros, and an emcee (to introduce and
explain the scene: occasional editorial comments could be
interesting as well)
- suggestion: the Helens take turns reading: each does one
sentence followed immediately by the next Helen who does one
sentence, following immediately by the next Helen who does
one sentence, etc. UNTIL Teukros arrives at which point the
three Helens read their lines all together).
- 141-252:
- cast: Teukros, Helen, and 3 chorus members.
- 253-385:
- cast: 3 helens, 2 chorus members
- as above, Helens trade off sentences: chorus can deliver
lines together or trade off.
- 386-513
- cast: Menelaus and a man, 2 Old Women doorkeepers
- you'll have to divide up Menelaus' lines between Menelaus
and his man and the doorkeepers' lines as best you can.
- 514-624
- cast: Menelaus, Menelaus' man, Helen, emcee (who does the
first unassigned lines)
- 625-697
- 698-773
- menelaus, chorus leader, servant
- 774-854
- 855-1030
- chorus leader, menelaus, theonoe, helen
- 1031-1098
- 1165-1300
- theoclymenos, helen, menelaus
- 1369-1450
- helen, theoclymenos, menelaus
- 1512-1692
- Egyptian messenger, theoclymenos, 2 chorus members, 2
dioscuroi (Castor and Pollux, gods)
