Tour the Exhibition Ambreen Butt: I Need a Hero

9:30 to 10:30 am Robert Hull Fleming Museum

Artist Ambreen Butt's work brings together the traditions of Persian and Indian miniature painting with Western modernist abstraction. Born in Pakistan and trained in miniature painting at the National College of Art in Lahore, Butt has lived in the United States since the mid-1990's. Her work discards conventional, passive representations of women in romantic and heroic narratives, in favor of female protagonists dressed in modern Western clothing, whose actions pose questions about identity and sexual politics.

Presented by: Christina Fearon, Curator of Education and Public Programs, Fleming Museum
