Join UVM community members in offering meditations for peace in languages from around the world. Harp and drum music will be performed by local musicians.

International Women's Day Breakfast & Free Lecture:
Fostering Women's Empowerment in West Africa

An annual tradition, our breakfast lecture kicks off International Women's Day with a great selection of international foods and a powerful keynote address from our guest speaker. This year, our speaker will be Dr. Bolanle Adetoun, a Nigerian woman who has worked to empower women in Africa for the past 20 years.

Gender and the HIV/AIDS Pandemic
Noon, Marsh Lounge, Billings Student Center
Join us in a brown-bag lunch discussion of how the HIV/AIDS Pandemic is affecting women all over the world. Dr. Adetoun and UVM's Dr. Sondra Solomon will facilitate the discussion.

Impacts of Urbanization & Education on African Women

A panel of UVM faculty will join Dr. Adetoun to discuss the ways in which urbanization affects women in the African continent.

Five Senses onto the World

Join Study Abroad Returnees and International Students in sharing international food, music and photos of and by women from around the world.

Student Activist Panel: Confronting Gender Based Violence

Dr. Adetoun will lead a panel of UVM student activists working to end gender based violence in their communities. By sharing Dr. Adetoun's efforts in her native Nigeria and the efforts of students in Vermont, we hope to gain a better understanding of the global impact of gender based violence and learn new ways to work to end violence in the lives of our mothers, sisters and daughters.
