Continuing Review

Protocol and informed consent approval will be renewed by the IRB at the time of continuing review. No participant should ever be given a consent document without the stamp, nor a consent document in which the expiration date has passed. The expiration date on the consent document must be verified every time a consent document is given to a participant.

After continuing review, you should receive a new stamp that has an expiration date which is usually 12 months in the future (some protocols require more frequent review and the expiration date will only be 3 or 6 months in the future).

After continuing review, the stamp (and signature page) should usually look the same, but have a new expiration date.

REMEMBER: Submit a clean copy of the consent document for continuing review. . . because the document needs a new stamp.
