393 Manhattan Drive

Built circa 1889

This residence is located near the intersection with the older section of Manhattan Drive to the west. It is a one-and-a-half story, ell-plan house and a gable front. The front façade is not oriented toward the street, but rather it faces west. As with many other ell-plan structures of the period, this house has raking eaves and a center chimney and a stone foundation. The fenestration is two-over-one with plain trim. The entranceway is located in a corner addition, which has been fit neatly between the ells.  A one-story addition has been attached to this entranceway and continues into the back area of the lot. The roof is clad with shingles.

The 1890 Hopkins map lists T. Martell on this site.[1]  Although no further information was found, with the construction of this portion of North Bend in 1889, it is possible that the house was constructed around that date.[2]
