225/227 St. Paul Street

This 2 1/2 story, two bay, wood frame, gable front building, which has a wood plank clad façade and shingle siding, a modern one-story side-wing on its south elevation, and a one-story brickface storefront projecting from its façade, was built ca. 1885 for Franklin White at a cost of $1500.1  White was a harness maker, and lived at the site with his family from ca. 1886 until his death ca. 1890.2 Thereafter, the building appears to have served for a time as rental real estate.3 The building was substantially remodeled with the addition of several wings by 1926, and since the 1930s, the building has served as commercial space.4 It was a restaurant from the 1930s until the mid 1940s, and a grocery store in the late 1940s.5 Since the mid 1950s, the building has been the home of an auto paint and supply business.6
