E-Bay: auctioned by "fiddybee" August 30, 2007 Item #200147315816 Description: "This magnificent and rare 1800-1810 gown was worn by Elizabeth Ramsay. According to the old note that came with the gown she attended a ball where she danced with French hero General Lafayette. The note tells a charming story. The gown was part of a museum collection at one time and donated by Mrs. Frances Gumbes of Oaks Montgomery CT. The gown is made of thin gauze fabric that has stripes of silver and gold metallic thread. The gown has the most exquisite and unique embroidery that is done with fine peacock feathers that are formed into a flower and vine pattern. The bodice has a drawstring closure and is lined with linen. The sleeves are lined with linen and the skirt is unlined. The gown has an open front and was possibly worn over a separate under dress. There is no fitted waistline. The gown has a long back train. The gown is in very good condition. There are a few small breaks on the back of the skirt, slight wear under the arms and some very minor age marks. The embroidery has scattered missing feather but most is intact. There are period linen inserts on the under part of the sleeves and these can easily be removed and put back to there original position.
