Curriculum

This course covers the basics of home horticulture and what it means to be an Extension Master Gardener (EMG). The instructors are comprised of UVM faculty and Vermont horticulture professionals. Course topics include: Botany, Turf and Weeds, Entomology, Plant Pathology, Vegetables, Soil Science, Perennials and Annuals, Sustainable Landscapes Intro, Integrated Pest Management, Invasive Plant Control, and UVM Extension Volunteering. Volunteer Internship & Certification

Remember, to receive your certificate as an Extension Master Gardener, you must complete a volunteer internship of 40 hours in addition to the Course. Graduates (EMG Interns) will partner with Certified Extension Master Gardeners on local projects. The 40 Hour Internship must be completed by December, 2012.

Admission to the Course

Admission is on a first-served basis and historically this course has filled very early. If you are interested in the course, we urge you to sign up NOW to avoid disappointment. The course fee is $315. The "Extension Master Gardener Sustainable Gardening Manual", other course materials, and shipping is an additional $50. MasterCard, Visa and American Express are accepted. Enrollment Deadline & Late Fees

The deadline for the 2011 class is January 21st. Thereafter, a late fee of $40 is required. After class begins on February 1, late enrollees must also purchase a DVD of missed classes at $17 per DVD.

Missed Classes

A maximum of 3 missed classes is allowed. This course runs 13 consecutive weeks. Students are expected to purchase a DVD of any missed class and submit a written summary. The DVD price is $17 each. DVDs are provided only if a student has missed a class.

Refund Policy

The full amount, less a $50.00 processing fee, may be refunded until December 17th. Cancellations that are postmarked December 18 through January 1 will only receive a refund of $100. After January 1, 2011, we cannot offer a refund.

Enrollment Confirmation via Email

Registration is confirmed via email within 1-2 weeks of your full payment. This email provides your class location, directions, and the date the course materials will be shipped to you. Print and retain this email for your records.
