HISTORY 26

WEEKLY PAPER #10

Your tenth weekly paper is due at the beginning of class Tuesday, November 14.  It must be typed (double-spaced) and 500-750 words (2-3 pp.) and based entirely on the following documents in Perspectives on the Past:

Bloch, “Strange Defeat,” pp. 705-08

Churchill, “Wars Are Not Won by Evacuation,” 709-12

Marchant, “Women and Children Last,” 712-716

Grossman, “In the Line of the Main Attack,” 716-20

Latour, “Jewish Resistance in France,” 720-21

Levi, “Survival in Auschwitz,” 723-28

Because you will be relying only one book for this paper, you do not need footnotes, but you should cite the page number for the information you use in parentheses.  Remember that spelling, grammar, and syntax will be evaluated as part of your grade; refer to The Pocket Writer’s Handbook for a refresher course in writing.

On Thursday, November 9, we will watch a short film about WWII and discuss the excerpts from “Trials of War Criminals,” 728-32 and Kuribayashi, “A Child’s Experience,” 732-36, in Perspectives on the Past.  Please bring your books or a copy of this section.
