HURRICANE FELIX update- March 2008

The destructive effects of Felix can be seen in every community on Nicaragua's Caribbean Coast. Besides damaged houses (many of which remain roofless) there is almost total destruction of the many giant mango trees that provided cover for the communities and gave them their character.

In response to the hardships caused by the hurricane, the Burlington/ Puerto Cabezas Sister City Program initiated a "Roofs for Christmas" campaign. Over $10,000 was raised by Vermonters and the City of Burlington, funds which have been distributed by our sister group in Bilwi toward roofing and construction materials for damaged homes in Puerto Cabezas. An updated report will be posted here soon.

Many thanks to the many Vermonters who donated time and money toward the relief effort.
