A test of fortitude and dedication, Vermont students work 6-8 days over the holiday break to prepare for two tournaments in the Midwest. After that rigorous preparation, they drive 27 hours to Kansas City. Generally theycrash on floors where we can. They debate six straight days. Students are generally entered into a division ABOVE their experience and eligibility level. After at least 13 debates, everyone drives back to Vermont, another 27 hour trip -- if the weather permits. This experience has built character and created a framework for future successes.
The Live Bait Machine pictures are traditional. We found a live bait coin operated vending machine in Lee's Summit, Missouri. Generations of Vermont debaters have had their pictures taken at this strange shrine.
