The assistantship covers full tuition for the MA program in communications as well as providing a stipend amounting to approximately $500 per month during the school year. Application deadline is March 1st. The Communications Program; At Pepperdine the Communications MA is set up such that there are two core "tracks". There is a track with an emphasis in Mass Communication and a track with an emphasis in Human Communication. In addition to these tracks students will have the opportunity to take coursework in areas such as legal communication, rhetorical studies, organizational communication, and journalism. The majority of our graduate students are either placed in PhD programs or law school at the completion of the program. The Debate Team/ Workload; Pepperdine is a debate-only program with a modest budget that travels a regional/national circuit. The expectations for graduate students include travel to 4-6 tournaments a semester (depending on courseload), 2 weekly meetings/practice session, and minimal card-cutting. The assistantship does not require teaching; it is a debate only position thus you will have more time to concentrate and coaching and school. Location; Pepperdine is located in Malibu, California literally across the street from the beach. The campus is approximately 20 minutes north of Santa Monica and Venice Beach and is near everything Los Angeles has to offer. In the 2 years that I have been here I have found Malibu to be a great place to work. Anyone who is interested in the program should contact me as soon as possible so I can get you information on the application process. Although the application deadline isn't until March 1st I would like to get a good idea of who is interested in the position much sooner than that.
