"The Northeast Kingdom Conservation Service Corps (NEKCSC) was established in 1995 with the goal of providing young teenagers with an opportunity to put their energy and creativity to work in a meaningful way that would offer tangible benefits to themselves, their community, and the environment."

Some of the youth's projects included:
- Researching and constructing a life size wigwam, an example of Native American and survivalist shelter
- Researching causes and effects of acid rain using various methods of assessing water quality and quantifying pollution
- Researching the role of wetlands as filters, flood preventers and habitats
