Better About Themselves
18 youth completed the Program in June 1994 with over 330 contact hours. Risk indicators that were considered include poverty, single parents, runaways and throw-aways, illiteracy, limited English proficiency, child abuse, limited parenting time, latchkey situations, truancy, underachievement, teen parenting and teen violence.
Year-end evaluations indicated:
- 12 students increased in self-confidence and/or self-esteem
- 2 students remarked on their sense of achievement and personal growth
- 7 students overcame some fear and nervousness in relation to certain recreational events resulting in an increased sense of courage and selfconfidence
- 8 increased in their problem-solving abilities
