Melde's Apparatus

The University of Vermont was founded in 1791 and is situated on the top of a hill in Burlington, Vermont, overlooking Lake Champlain. Over this period of time, the physics department  has retained some of the instruments used for classroom demonstrations as well as those used in the course of scientific research. On September 25, 2002, a partially complete display area was dedicated and a talk was delivered by Dr. Thomas Greenslade, "Natural Philosophy At the University of Vermont". The purpose of this page is to provide an easy means for faculty and staff members to become aquainted with the array of equipment that is hidden away in the dark recesses of the department, and for people who have an interest in the tools used by the teachers and scientists of the past.

This page is currently in a rough form, and the information concerning each item is incomplete (or totally lacking). This will improve with time as will the number of items listed.
