Social Media and Communications Intern
Job Summary
The Communications Intern will work with the CCM Chaplain, the CCM Board and the Fellowship Meals Intern to develop an open communications network with UVM students, CCM student leaders, the Religious and Spiritual Life Council (RSLC) and affiliated area churches and individuals.
Under the supervision of the CCM Chaplain, the intern’s responsibilities will focus on:
- the CCM website and social media
- a quarterly newsletter
- email and phone call answering and messaging
- office visitors
Working in collaboration with the CCM Chaplain, a CCM Board representative, and the Fellowship Meals Intern, the Communications Intern will establish protocols necessary to provide clear and informative CCM communication to all the various CCM audiences.
The goals for the Communications program are:
- Reach out to UVM students using a variety of communication tools to increase CCM’s visibility and inform about what CCM has to offer
- Improve significantly local affiliated church knowledge and opinions of CCM within the next year
- Assist CCM Board members to develop a better understanding about campus activities and student interests
Job Duties
- Create a quarterly CCM newsletter for the website, with a hardcopy edition for distribution to supporting churches and individuals
- Monitor the CCM website regularly to ensure information is accurate, current and free of errors, and make recommendations for necessary changes to the CCM Board representative
- Assist with office correspondence through email, phone calls, and Facebook
- Work closely with CCM Chaplain, CCM student leaders, and Fellowship Meal Intern to ensure social media communications are managed in a timely manner. Monitor communications activity to ensure compliance with CCM values
- Serve as a warm and welcoming presence in the office and engage office visitors and guests in conversation. Perform general office upkeep
- Recommend strategies for recruiting new student members and improving communication outreach methods
- Manage work requests in a timely manner
- Attend an end-of- the-semester meeting (both fall and spring) with the CCM Chaplain and a CCM Board representative to evaluate the program and make recommendations for improvement
Working Relationships

- Works closely with: CCM Chaplain, CCM Board representative, Fellowship Meals Intern and CCM student leaders
- Communicates frequently with: office visitors and callers, in addition to the persons above
Skills and Qualifications Required
- Flexibility and willingness to learn new skills throughout the year
- Critical thinking skills for improving office organization procedures and hospitality
- Strong relational and organizational skills, as well as an ability to prioritize tasks
- Ability to verbalize questions and communicate needs
- Ability to be professional and confidential with delicate situations
- Strong understanding of Microsoft Office, Outlook, Word, Excel and Publisher
- Knowledge of social media utilized by students
- Experience or interest in communication, writing, copy editing, marketing, advertising, journalism
Time Required
8 hours per week
Length of Service
2016-2017 Fall and Spring Semesters (Aug 29 thru Dec 16, 2016 and Jan 17 thru May 12, 2017)
Training and development
- Intern will participate in a half-day training session as soon as practical at the beginning of the internship in late August or early September
- Intern will meet with Chaplain for ½ hour every week for consultation purposes
- Intern will participate in a 2-hour evaluation and debriefing at the end of each semester, in December and May
Compensation
Every two weeks; $800 minimum per semester.
