Mission Statement

WE REMEMBER !

WE CELEBRATE !

WE BELIEVE !

The Catholic Center at UVM is a Roman Catholic faith community within the diocese of Burlington and is comprised of students, faculty, and staff of the University of Vermont and other local colleges, and supportive local residents.

We Remember: Under the lordship of the Risen Christ present in this eucharistic community, we have been formed by the word of God and gifted by the Holy Spirit. Inspired by the principles of John Henry Cardinal Newman, we value the development of an adult faith by nurturing our spiritual, intellectual, and emotional growth. We are committed to continuing our Christian formation as well as our secular education in the academic disciplines. Through the example of our patron, St. Augustine, we remain open to a spirit of ongoing conversion for ourselves and our world.

We Celebrate: It is in the Eucharistic liturgy that we encounter most deeply God's unconditional love. We seek to create a sacred space of welcome for the fullest experience of this love, made present in the sacrament of the altar. Here, we worship and witness through the proclamation of the inspired Word of God and the breaking of the bread. In a spirit of love and reconciliation, we encourage each other in the living, conscious, and active expression of our faith.

We Believe: Each of us, called by name at Baptism and nourished at the Eucharistic banquet of Jesus, will assume responsibility for the growth of our community in faith, hope, and love. Our special ministry is to the faith development of our students and to continuing dialogue on contemporary issues that affect their lives. We commit ourselves to being a community of welcome and outreach. In a spirit of compassion and service we seek the face of Jesus in the marginalized, lonely, and all who experience oppression. We will strive to reserve for all a place of honor in our hearts, with respect for the dignity of every person.

"in Christ you too are being built together

to become a dwelling in whom God lives by His Spirit." Ephesians 2:22.
