Creating Indents in Word

Indent Ruler Key Strokes Toolbar
First-line indents: indent the first line of the paragraph. Top triangle  
  • Format | Paragraph | Indents And Spacing Tab.
  • Special | First-line.
Hanging indent: leaves the first line of the text alone while indenting the rest of the paragraph. Bottom triangle

Increase indent: CTRL/T

Decrease indent: SHIFT/CTRL/T
  • Format | Paragraph | Indents And Spacing Tab.
  • Special | Hanging.
Left indent: creates a specified distance from the left margin to the text. Box

Increase indent: CTRL/M

Decrease indent: SHIFT/CTRL/M
  • Format | Paragraph | Indents And Spacing Tab.
  • Indentation | Left.
Right indent: creates a specified distance from the right margin to the text. Triangle on the right

  • Indentation | Right.
