Unpredictable Column Widths

Netscape interprets the TD WIDTH attribute as the minimum width of the table column; the cell's actual width is determined by a complex algorithm. The results are unpredictable. The bottom line: you can't trust Netscape's column width algorithm. To get predictable column width, you have three options:

  1. Set the width of every column in your table, but don't set width inside your TABLE tag.
  2. Set the overall table width inside your TABLE tag, but don't set the width of any columns.
  3. Use a transparent image to force the width of each of your columns.
